Arsenal’s solution may be closer to them than they think…

The options seem endless in the summer transfer window for Arsenal, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. If anything, the Gunners will have to pick at scraps in order to appeal to the fans that expect a lot of them, perhaps unfairly at times.

With all that’s going on in the world and the implications the Coronavirus is bound to have on the transfer market, it’s about time to delve deeper into swap deals and free pre-contract signings. One player who is available in the summer for free is Adam Lallana of Liverpool.

Which is ironic because Lallana plays the role which Arsenal will probably look to sign this summer; a box-to-box midfielder. Thomas Partey and Orkun Kokcu have both been linked with the club recently, both players that can play this role.

It’s no coincidence either since this is the component Mikel Arteta needs to finish crafting his perfectly-balanced midfield. While Granit Xhaka dictates the play and Lucas Torreira cuts out opposing player, they need a third who can come in to plug the gap between midfield and attack, bringing the ball forward before popping it off to let the attackers do their job.

This is what Adam Lallana does expertly, and he would be free, which gives him the edge over Partey and Kokcu. Obviously, if the Gunners can afford to sign any of these two, then they absolutely should as they are younger and more talented.

However, what I’m saying is I wouldn’t be against signing Lallana as a short-term option to fill a position of need. He would be free, which equals zero-risk. He’s Premier League proven and wouldn’t mind sitting out the odd game since that’s what he’s used to with Liverpool.
