Manchester United ready to go all out to bring Saul Niguez to England.

Manchester United is looking to make three major signings this summer with the likes of Jadon Sancho, their top target, alongside Jack Grealish and Jude Bellingham according to Evening Standard. Now news has emerged from Spanish website Todo Fichajes claiming a £70million deal for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez is on the cards with him making a switch to Old Trafford.

Despite holding a long-term contract with Atletico, which contains a release clause of £132m, it is said that Atletico will sell the Spaniard during the next transfer window. The decision was taken due to the need to balance the costs from last summer and the ongoing pandemic.

Manchester United’s transfer plans might have been affected by corona virus pandemic but still, rank among top 3 clubs in total revenue with a staggering £711.5 million as per 2020 Deloitte Football Money League.

According to Le10Sport, Paul Pogba‘s agent Mino Raiola has opened talks with Juventus ahead of a potential summer move. Saul could be a good investment reinforcing a vulnerable defensive midfielder position for Solskjaer’s side.

How would Saul improve the squad?

Saul has played 34 games in La Liga and UEFA Champions League this season.
He was part of the Atletico squad that dumped Liverpool out of the Champions League with an excellent defensive display and a crucial goal in the first leg. He had been linked to Manchester United a few years back, and fans will rejoice this signing.

More from Manchester United

Saul Niguez sits at the base of midfield and can provide support in attack and defense. He does the job of a central defensive midfielder and acts as an armor for the center-backs, making it difficult to break them down.

As soon as the ball is intercepted, Saul’s key attribute is the ability to conduct play with critical passes for the forwards. He makes several solo runs into the penalty box making it difficult to mark him alongside the forwards that could free up Martial and Rashford.

During set-pieces, Saul provides an aerial threat and excellent ball control in confined spaces with the ability to finish off with either foot into the net.

His weaknesses include his inability to specialize in any position and being in a free role similar to Pogba. He doesn’t make a lot of tackles as well something which will be significant in a physical and bullying Premier League.

If Saul were to replace Pogba at United this summer, he could fit into midfield alongside Fred, Scott McTominay or Nemanja Matic. The same effect which Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo signings made in January, Saul will be a step in the right direction alongside the likes of Sancho.
