The current Liverpool squad is immensely talented and this is no secret…

What many people are wondering, though, is what will become of Liverpool after the Salah’s, Mane’s and Van Dijk’s of the team are past their best.

It will then fall upon the heads of a new squad of players, some of whom will, most likely, have been recruited in the coming years between now and then.

Others, though, will hopefully have risen up through the academy and first team ranks to earn themselves a place in future Klopp sides. With that being said, here are 5 rising stars to keep an eye on.

1. Joe Gomez

At 23 years old, Joe Gomez has accomplished what most other 23-year-olds (myself included) can only dream of. Champions League winner, UEFA Super Cup winner and FIFA Club World Cup winner, all of which came in 2019.

“A classy, unflappable defender who can operate anywhere across the backline,” is how Liverpool describe him and this statement grows in its accuracy with every passing game.

With 63 total Premier League appearances across 5 seasons for Liverpool he has led his side to victory on 46 of those times, a win ratio of 73%.

Whilst he has yet to score for Liverpool, his defence capabilities are immense. 75% tackle success and 29 clean sheets, which is 46% of his 63 games. In fact, these statistics really outline the part played by Gomez when he’s on the pitch as he’s only ever lost 4 Premier League games for Liverpool!

Gomez may not have scored for Liverpool and has only provided 3 assists, but these are areas in which he can improve in the coming years. Besides, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson, Virgil Van Dijk all provide an attacking threat for Liverpool.

Gomez, in contrast, is what Liverpool have sought after for many, many years now. A totally defensively minded, imposing centre back.

For these reasons, Joe Gomez will be Van Dijk’s centre back partner for several years to come and will probably finish with one trophy to mark each year of his footballing career, at this rate.
