If Marcos Alonso leaves this summer, Chelsea won’t sweat.

I, personally, think Marcos Alonso is a great player. The Chelsea full-back seems to always be involved in the goal scoring and assist providing department, but maybe I’m just saying this as a naive neutral fan.

I am aware, of course, that Alonso isn’t the greatest fit to Frank Lampard‘s system and, if anything, he hinders the progress of potential young players. This is not what Lampard would want; there’s only so much goal scoring can do.

This is why Alonso runs the risk of being sold this summer, with Sports Illustrated claiming the Blues will listen to offers and accept if the right price comes along. It should come as no surprise since the Spanish full-back divides opinion among the fanbase.

According to Le10Sport, Chelsea are now leading the race to sign Alex Telles of Porto, the Brazilian left-back they have been linked with in the past. The 27-year-old shares many traits to Marcos Alonso, including the immense ability to get on the score sheet, as he has scored eight goals and provided five assists in Liga NOS this season.

Telles would hopefully be a better fit to Lampard’s system, as he is much more creative than Alonso is. He prides himself on the ability to beat his man with the ball at his feet before playing pinpoint crosses into the attacker. This would be perfect for Tammy Abraham or even a new striker option to get on the end of.

It may be an avenue to explore, Chelsea offering Marcos Alonso in return for Telles. This way, it would be a win-win for both sides. After all, with the Coronavirus bound to impact the transfer market, clubs need to do all they can to save money and player swaps are the perfect way to do that.

Do you think Chelsea will sign Alex Telles this summer?
