Chelsea fans won’t like this one…
Since this summer is Frank Lampard‘s first as Chelsea manager where he is free to make the transfers he wishes to, he will feel hard-done-by that the Coronavirus pandemic has coincided with this, therefore, as we know, Premier League clubs will need to make sacrifices.
However, there are still the same old names that are being thrown around when it comes to Chelsea, with a large proportion of those being left-back options; including Alex Telles and Ben Chilwell.
According to a new report from the Athletic, Chelsea have finally heard back fro Leicester City regarding their valuation of Ben Chilwell, and it’s not one the Blues will like. It’s thought that the Foxes value their full-back at a price of £85m which, especially given the climate of the market right now, is a steep price.

The Stamford Bridge board will seriously consider whether splashing out this much cash on one player is worthwhile, especially considering he is “just” full-back, a position which doesn’t tend to be this extortionately priced.
That said, Chilwell is an excellent defender with a bright future ahead of him. He loves to play on the front-foot and he is no stranger to overlapping his winger in order to play a neat cross into the striker. This is exactly what Chelsea need to replace Marcos Alonso, who may be o his way out if the right price comes along.
I suppose this is what’s most frustrating for the fans, because they can see how much Chilwell fits into Lampard’s philosophy but he will be hard to obtain given the hefty price tag. He would certainly be an investment too, given that he’s just 23 years old.
It’ll be interesting to see how this transfer story progresses because, as a neutral, I can certainly see the fans’ admiration and hopefulness of signing Chilwell.
Do you think Chelsea will sign Ben Chilwell this summer?
