After numerous months of speculation regarding Leroy Sane’s future at Manchester City, his next destination looks very clear now amid the ongoing interest from Bayern
Prior to Sane injuring his knee before this season, German champions Bayern Munich were already very keen on the youngster after a breakout campaign last year where he was bagged 16 goals and also tallied 18 assists across all competitions. His absence was definitely felt this term for Pep Guardiola’s side, but it now looks like he will finally leave Manchester City and make the much-anticipated move back to his homeland.
According to German outlet Bild, Sane will sign a five-year contract with Hansi Flick’s squad, giving them another skilled attacker out wide. The 24-year old is familiar with the Bundesliga, having played for Schalke prior to signing with Manchester City in 2016.

During his career in England, Sane has turned into one of the brightest young attackers in Europe, playing in an instrumental part of Manchester City’s success over the last number of years. His best season came in 2017/18, where he scored ten goals and also collected an impressive 15 assists in domestic play, helping the English giants win their first of two straight Premier League titles.
Bayern has been vying for Sane’s signature since last summer, but a gruesome knee injury before this season halted a move for him at the time. With the German international now healthy and set to play limited minutes once football in England returns in the next two weeks, it’s likely it will be his last time playing in a City uniform.
Bayern has been in world-class form since Flick took over for Niko Kovac in November, losing just twice in 26 matches since the German has become the new gaffer. Flick’s counter-attack style of football has fared well for Bayern and with the addition of another top-notch attacking player like Sane, it’s only going to make them even better.
Usually deployed out left for Manchester City, Sane will face competition at that position in Serge Gnabry, but either player could also transition to the right flank as well. Wing-back Alphonso Davies always presses high up the pitch on the left so it will be important that Sane can properly adjust to Flick’s tactics if he does stay on his natural side in order to allow the Canadian starlet to still contribute on the attack.
Nevertheless, Sane will be an outstanding signing for Bayern once the deal is actually finalized. His pace, skill, and versatile abilities in the final third should fit in perfectly at the Allianz Stadium and make Bayern an even more unstoppable force in Germany and on the European stage.
