Manchester United have Federico Chiesa in their sights if they miss out on Jadon Sancho.

A right-winger is a top priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjær and United in the upcoming transfer window, as Jadon Sancho continues to be relentlessly linked with Manchester United in the media.

But Borussia Dortmund appears to be unwilling to reduce their asking price for the England international below £100 million, in spite of the coronavirus pandemic severely affecting clubs across Europe financially.

While United seem to have taken out a loan of £140 million to sign new players ahead of the next season, it seems unlikely that they would blow a significant chunk of that one player, given that they continue to target a midfielder and a striker as well.

More from Manchester United

According to reports from Italy, United are in pole position to sign Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa, who is valued by his club at £60 million. This is still a significant amount, but much lower than what they would have to shell out for Sancho.

Chiesa, who is the son of former Italy international Enrico, has scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists in Serie A this season. He is regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in the Italian top flight.

The 22-year-old is a versatile forward who can play across the front line, but primarily operates from the right. His pace, work rate and technical abilities has enabled him to play as a wing back as well.

Chiesa would be a good addition to United’s squad and would fit in well in their currently vacant right-wing spot. While Daniel James has had a decent first season, the Welsh youngster still has to mature a bit.

It seems unlikely though, that Ed Woodward would be willing to pay Fiorentina’s asking price for Chiesa. United will definitely try and drive down the price, as they did for Bruno Fernandes in January.
