Timo Werner to Chelsea seems inevitable now, but there are problems.
The summer transfer window is fast approaching and Timo Werner to Chelsea seems like a done deal pretty much. Many outlets are predicting that the deal will be confirmed this weekend but we will wait and see.
Timo Werner is an immense player and one of the best forwards in the world. He is young, versatile and rapid, so undoubtedly he is a great signing from Chelsea’s perspective. However, do not be fooled, because it’s not PERFECT. There are problems which will still arise.
Here are three of them…
3. Reduced chance of signing Ben Chilwell
It’s a very strange transfer window this time around. Obviously, the Coronavirus pandemic has resulted in a market crash. This means that clubs will be fighting for scraps, and blockbuster deals are likely to not go ahead.
This is why it’s a surprise to many that Chelsea have managed to pull off Timo Werner. However, it will likely be at the expense of Ben Chilwell. For Chelsea to sign both, especially given Leicester City’s high valuation, would be a miracle.
I would argue that the left-back position was one of greater need, but it’s clear that Frank Lampard wants to prioritise in his attack. Of course, Chilwell could still happen, but the chance will grow slimmer as soon as Chelsea pay RB Leipzig the fee.
