Which new signings do these Premier League teams desperately need?

The Premier League is finally edging closer to a return after more than 3 months of no football thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.

The outbreak has halted sporting activities across the globe, as well as postponed major summer events like the Euros, Copa America and the Tokyo Olympics. But European leagues are slowly resuming, with the Bundesliga and LaLiga leading the way. The Premier League will return on June 17th, and Serie A on June 20th.

While the English top flight title might already have been decided, the race for Champions League qualification is still very much open. The gap between the end of the current campaign and the start of the next one is going to be very short this year, which means that clubs are already working on deals for new summer signings.

The virus might have impacted a lot of teams financially, but that hasn’t stopped several transfer rumors from spreading. Chelsea have already signed Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, and are close to wrapping up a deal for Timo Werner.

Let’s take a look at each Premier League top 6 club’s dream summer signing:

Tottenham: Moussa Dembele

Before the league’s suspension, Spurs had to deal with the absence of star forwards Harry Kane and Heung-min Son through injury, and Jose Mourinho signed Steve Bergwijn to add some depth to his squad.

But Tottenham have looked rudderless in attack in the absence of Kane, with Son’s injury further compounding the issue. Lucas Moura has been played as a makeshift striker, but the Brazilian is clearly uncomfortable upfront.

It’s become clear that Spurs have no plan B in the absence of the England captain, and definitely need to rectify that. Lyon’s Moussa Dembele has come under the spotlight this season, having scored 16 goals in Ligue 1. He’s quickly developing into one of the most impressive strikers in Europe.

The 23-year-old has already played in England with Fulham, albeit in the Championship. There are few forwards of his quality available in the market right now, but Spurs signing him looks unlikely with no concrete approach being reported as of now.
