Chelsea are the only club anywhere close to securing a deal for their dream summer signing.

The Blues have acted fast, having already signed Hakim Ziyech. Personal terms with Werner have reportedly been agreed, and Frank Lampard could have one of the most fearsome attacks in England at his disposal next season.

Tammy Abraham has had a decent debut season in the Premier League with 13 goals. Still, he’s not the kind of striker who could win you titles, and apart from him Chelsea are short of options with Giroud turning 34 this year.

Werner would provide genuine quality, depth and versatility. The German striker has been in imperious form for Leipzig with 25 goals and 8 assists in the Bundesliga this season. While he has always been considered a good player, he has established himself as one of Europe’s elite strikers in the last few months.

Still only 24, Werner is set to be Germany’s leading man for years to come. With a transfer fee of around £49 million being mentioned, it would be an absolute steal for a player of his quality.
