Manchester City: Dayot Upamecano

The defense has been a huge issue for City this season. Guardiola let club captain Vincent Kompany leave last summer without replacing him, and a long-term injury to Aymeric Laporte completely derailed the Spaniard’s plans.

John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi are shaky at their best, so Fernandinho has had to deputize at centre back, with even youth graduate Eric Garcia making 2 league starts.

A defender will be top priority for City this summer, and there are few defenders in Europe who are more in-form than Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano at the moment.

The 21-year-old is one of the most promising stars in a league brimming with young talent. All the initial signs point toward a player who could become one of the world’s best.

The Frenchman is aggressive and supremely talented on the ball, always looking for forward passes. He’s perfectly suited for City’s system, and already has the maturity to play in a demanding league in spite of his age.
