Manchester United set to miss out on Atletico’s Saul Niguez
Saul has insisted that Madrid is his home amidst rumors linking him to Manchester United.
Manchester United are in the market for a midfielder with Jack Grealish and James Maddison being long-term targets, but Saul was a relatively new name being mentioned.
Reports mentioned that the Spanish midfielder was very close to a move to Old Trafford, and the 25-year-old himself claimed that he would announce a new club on Twitter, sending fans into a frenzy.
It was a false alarm though, as it turned out to be an academy project based in Elche. It’s entirely possible that United have cooled their interest in a new midfielder now that Paul Pogba seems set to stay at the club for the upcoming season at least.

It would also explain why there has been virtually no news on the Grealish front, after the Aston Villa captain was extensively linked since January. Speaking with Radio Marca, Saul claimed that he was solely focused on finishing the current campaign with Atletico, and the possibility of winning the Champions League.
He has spent only one season away from his boyhood club, having spent 2013/14 on loan at Rayo Vallecano, and he also signed an unusual nine year contract extension in 2017.
Saul is likely to be involved when Atletico return to action against Bilbao in LaLiga, which will be their first fixture since a stunning round-of-16 Champions League elimination of holders Liverpool at Anfield.
Meanwhile, Pogba and winter signing Bruno Fernandes have already played together for United in a friendly against West Brom, and fans will be eager to witness the duo in action against Tottenham on June 19th.
With 9 games remaining in the league, and United sitting just 3 points behind Chelsea, Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s immediate priority will be finishing in the top 4.
United are also still involved in the FA Cup and the Europa League, and have a reasonable chance of lifting silverware if both competitions resume this season
