With 9 games remaining in the Premier League season, let us look at the players to watch out for in Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s side needs just two wins to secure the title but, the question is, will they be able to beat City’s 100-point record? Liverpool did set an English top-flight record of 22 consecutive home wins but missed out on a third consecutive Champions League final and adding domestic cups to their tally.

With only the Premier League to play for, Klopp will look to provide some fringe players with an opportunity to prove themselves and look towards building his team for the next campaign.

Liverpool have been dependent on their big players to guide them until here with the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohammed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson all having an excellent campaign. But let us not forget the contribution of the bench with the likes of Shaqiri, Origi, Keita and Adrian who have stepped up to the level when expected.

That is what makes Liverpool the team to beat this season with Watford and Atletico Madrid the only disappointing results for the Kop. Let’s take a look at some of the Liverpool players who are looking to prove a point during the remainder of the season

#5 Joel Matip

Joel Matip will always be remembered as the second centre-back partnering Van Dijk but his contributions to Liverpool’s title haul is significant. Consistent and reliable, Klopp certainly knows the value of Matip now, recently naming him as one of the best free transfers, bought from Schalke in 2016.

Matip is comfortable on the ball and can play long passes over the top to the forwards. In 2018/19 season, he made 49 tackles,95 aerial duels,41 interceptions and 126 passes in the final third. Due to an injury, he lost his place to upcoming England talent Joe Gomez. The Premier League restart comes with a congestion of fixtures and he will be deployed in the defence once in a while to provide rest to Gomez and Van Dijk.
