Chelsea: 3 alternatives to signing Kai Havertz this summer
By Kian Long
Chelsea shouldn’t put all their eggs in the Kai Havertz basket.
As the summer transfer window fast approaches, Chelsea fans have every right to be excited. Despite the Coronavirus situation, the Blues have already landed the signing of Timo Werner which means they are in business.
Having been linked with Kai Havertz in recent weeks, fans are rightfully excited by the prospect. However, it’s important to have a plan B just in case the deal falls through, which is more than possible given the climate of the market right now.
That said, here are 3 alternatives for Frank Lampard to consider…
3. Federico Bernadeschi
Federico Bernadeschi began the Serie A campaign brightly with Juventus, as he started a string of consecutive matches. However, the Old Lady midfield is one of the most compact in the world and therefore, it is hard to get into. I mean, any player would have a hard time keeping up with the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Blaise Matuidi and Aaron Ramsey.
That said, Chelsea might have an easier time giving Bernadeschi some game time. He is an attack-minded midfielder that loves to play on the front foot, similar to Mason Mount in many ways. He would be a much cheaper alternative to Kai Havertz, since Juve may deem him as surplus to requirements anyway.
