Many would even argue that Chelsea don’t need to sign Kai Havertz, or any alternative in that case. This is because the Blues are lucky enough to be the home of Mason Mount, who is one of the best young players in the Premier League.

He has been a revolutionary star to Frank Lampard’s first season in charge. In fact, at the beginning of this season there was a time period where he and Tammy Abraham were contributing to essentially all of the goals.

One of the problems with signing Kai Havertz is that it would leave little to no room for Mount in the starting XI. While Havertz would be an upgrade, the old saying rings true; why fix something that isn’t broken?

The main benefit of sticking with Mount is that Chelsea can choose instead to focus on strengthening positions of need, for example, the full-back role. Many are turning against Marcos Alonso and with Juventus interested, the Blues may need to sign someone like Ben Chilwell to fill this void.

Mount, much like Havertz, has a bright future ahead of him. It would be a real confidence boost to the 21-year-old if Lampard places faith in him, and it would also hope in his quest to get a Euro 2021 callup.
