Arsenal: This Barcelona target is the perfect Willian alternative

Arsenal would certainly be sorted for many years to come in their attack.

While Arsenal have been struggling of late, there is one positive that prevails among the rest. If they play their cards right, then Mikel Arteta has a promising future ahead of him at the Gunners, given the fine performances of their young players.

Bukayo Saka, Kieran Tierney and Eddie Nketiah have impressed since the comeback, despite the string of poor results. This is one thing nobody can fault the Gunners for since they have some of the best young players in the league.

Of course, fans will simply be hoping that they don’t end up losing these star players, like they have done over the last decade. The best way to ensure this is to bring in new top-quality players to match, and preferably some fellow youngsters so that they can relate to.

According to O Jogo (via Daily Star), Arsenal have made contact with Sporting Lisbon over their talented 17-year-old wonderkid Joelson Fernandes. The winger is thought to be the subject of interest at Barcelona and RB Leipzig too.

This goes to show what Arteta’s transfer aims are for this summer. He wants to sign some top quality young players that will prove to be a great investment in the future. It shows that his project at the Emirates Stadium is a marathon, not a sprint.

Of course, Joelson Fernandes is unproven, since he has not yet made a senior appearance for Sporting. However, Goal has heaped large praise on the winger, claiming that he is following in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo which, Arsenal fans know too well, is not bad footsteps to follow in, like, at all.

The winger spot seems to be a position of interest to Arsenal, having been linked with Willian and Ryan Fraser in recent weeks. If they wish to set their sights higher and prepare for the future, then Fernandes is the perfect alternative.
