2. David Luiz

To say that David Luiz has “not impressed” is a mild, mild understatement. In fact, he’s done quite the opposite and actively, single-handedly lost Arsenal the game against Manchester City. Before his arrival, the Gunners looked like the better side and had control of the game (rare against this City side) but the arrival of the clown brought about shambles.

He essentially played Raheem Sterling through on goal before taking down Riyad Mahrez and being sent off. It was perhaps the worst cameo from any Arsenal player I can recall watching in my lifetime, but we move.

The reason why I’m so frustrated with David Luiz is that we saw before the Coronavirus break exactly what he can bring to the XI and contrary to popular belief, he’s actually a cracking defender. The Brazil international shone in terms of passing the ball out from the back and even showing many leadership qualities under Arteta.

Does this mean that his Arsenal career should be over due to a few mistakes in a match? No, of course not. It just means that he has a lot more to prove when he returns to the XI. The game against Sheffield United tomorrow, should Arteta be bold enough to start Luiz, will be pivotal to his future at the club.

Given that the FA Cup is a real opportunity for silverware this season, Arsenal fans will be hoping that players remain level-headed with their minds on one thing; getting the win and progressing to the next round. David Luiz will have a lot to prove if he really does value the club as much as he professes to.
