Real Madrid close to selling on-loan fullback to Inter Milan.

Antonio Conte continues to look to improve his squad as Inter Milan are reportedly close to reaching a deal for Real Madrid full-back Achraf Hakimi. According to The Guardian, the two sides are nearing an agreement that would see Hakimi join Inter for around €40 million plus add-ons.

He has spent the last two seasons on loan at Borussia Dortmund where he has really come into his own and become an important player for the German side. So why is he looking to join Inter instead of heading back to Real Madrid?

Despite playing well at Dortmund, he would be the second choice at his parent club behind Dani Carvajal in that right side of the defence. Hakimi can play as a left-back as well but he would face even more competition there from the likes of Marcelo and Ferland Mendy.

He wants consistent playing time and he knows in order to get that he’s going to have to find a different club. That’s where Inter come in. However, Dortmund is still hopeful that they can reach an agreement with Madrid for an extension on his loan with an option to buy.

"“We know what we can and cannot do in the Hakimi case,” said Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc. “We are in close contact with Real Madrid. He’s still our player for a few days.”Source: Goal"

While Dortmund would like to extend his loan, they know they cannot get into bidding with Inter or any other team because they are not going to be spending big given the financial hit they’ve taken due to the coronavirus.

Perhaps they know their chances of keeping Hakimi are slim which is why they’ve gone out and signed Paris Saint-Germain right-back Thomas Meunier on a free transfer.
