Chelsea has a plan B lined up this summer if they don’t sign Havertz.

Heading into the summer transfer window, Chelsea has already done some incredible business. They have secured the signing of Timo Werner from Red Bull Leipzig, the 24-year-old Germany international will arrive with an incredible reputation already, being one of the Bundesliga’s top talisman over the last few seasons.

It’s also thought that Frank Lampard is interested in adding to this signing, remaining in the Bundesliga with Kai Havertz. However, the jury is out as to whether or not the Chelsea board can afford to sign both players in one season which is understandable given the current climate of the transfer market.

That said, it’s great to see that the Blues are lining up alternatives just in case the deal falls through. Rumour has it, according to the Independent, that Chelsea is eyeing a move for Manchester United’s Angel Gomes.

The young English midfielder runs out of contract and is not expected to sign an extension this summer since he is deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. One team’s loss is another team’s gain, however.

Frank Lampard has rejuvenated the Chelsea squad since he took over at the start of this season. Now, young players are the focal point of the squad and it’s particularly English gems that make up the core. In fact, at the start of the season, it was Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham who contributed to all of the goals for the Blues.

Angel Gomes would love to get in on this and reach the potential that he is surely destined to reach. It may not have worked out for him at United, but as a young player coming through the ranks, it is incredibly difficult to make it at Old Trafford.

Do you think Chelsea will sign Angel Gomes this summer?
