Arsenal: Aubameyang provides an unhelpful contract update
By Kian Long
Arsenal fans aren’t going to like this “update”.
When it comes to Arsenal, the fans have grown accustomed to uncertainty in recent seasons and in all honesty, it seems to be the narrative of this current era. From the end of Arsene Wenger’s reign to Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey’s future, the fans have always been the last to know what is going on at the club.
And the tale is proving true with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang once more. The Gabon international still has a year remaining on his contract but the club and indeed the fans won’t want to lose him for free when his contract expires, that’s for sure. It’s not a nice feeling at all.
With the recent contract extension of Bukayo Saka, who was in a similar situation, I am hopeful that this means Arsenal have their priorities in the right place. However, now they must build on this momentum by adding Aubameyang to this list.

However, according to Goal, Aubameyang is still not yet certain whether he is to upgrade his contract. Whether this means that the club cannot afford to give him the wages he wants, or they simply can’t agree to terms elsewhere remains unknown.
It’s important to remember that this is not “bad news”; it’s simply “no news”. Sometimes, no news can be good news. After all, we were left in the dark about Saka’s contract upgrade and it hit us out of the blue, so the same could be the case for Aubameyang of course.
Aubameyang is a proven goal scorer and he became the fastest player in Arsenal history to reach 50 Premier League goals. This speaks volumes of his quality that he is still scoring goals for fun at the age of 31 years old. He is showing no signs of deterioration and in fact, he is only improving with age, like a fine wine. That said, Arsenal would be safe in keeping him for a few years to come.
Do you think Arsenal and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can agree on a new contract?
