Arsenal fans might like this decision from Arteta.

For the longest time, it seemed likely that Dani Ceballos would simply return to Real Madrid after his loan move at Arsenal with no questions asked. After all, he would be an incredibly costly player given his stature in Spain, and Los Blancos would rightfully not let him go for cheap. Arsenal are not the financial powerhouses they perhaps should be, which doesn’t help matters.

However, it now seems that the Gunners have done a full 180 on their Dani Ceballos stance. According to a new report from Goal, Arsenal are now confident that they can sign the Spaniard on a permanent deal from the Santiago Bernabeu, with Arteta keen to get the move to go ahead.

I would argue that this decision change has been influenced by the recent uprise in Dani Ceballos’ form. Since returning from injury and playing after the Coronavirus halt, the Spanish midfielder has been a completely different kettle of fish and a revitalised player.

More from Arsenal FC

His goal against Sheffield United in the last minute after coming on as a substitute gave Arsenal a place in the semifinal of the FA Cup, a position they are familiar with. He also put in an excellent shift against Norwich in the 4-0 win in the Premier League yesterday, starring in the midfield.

In many ways, I suppose Arteta sees some of himself in Ceballos. Ceballos possesses a tonne of Spanish flair, but he differs to Arteta in a sense of he prefers playing in the final third.

Ceballos is a committed player and in his loan spell, he has actively been the most enthusiastic player, lifting the spirits of others when they needed it most. The fans have certainly appreciated his work, but most notably under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta rather than Unai Emery.
