Inter Milan hit six for the first time since March 2017!

Inter Milan romped to a smashing 6-0 victory over the hapless Brescia at the San Siro to keep pace with Lazio and Juventus.

Ashley Young, Alexis Sanchez, Danilo D’Ambrosio, Roberto Gagliardini, Christian Eriksen, and Antonio Candreva all bagged apiece as the Rondinelle were battered pillar to post.

The victory consolidates Antonio Contre’s men on third with 64 points from 29 games, whereas their Lombardy rivals are now banished to the foot of the table with relegation looming large.

Let’s delve into the three talking points from the match:

Ex-Premier League stars have field day

Inter Milan has earned the reputation of being the ‘last chance saloon’ for Premier League outcasts, with as many as five players poached from the English top-flight this season alone. Four of them were involved in the shellacking last night. Ashley Young, Alexis Sanchez, Victor Moses, and Christian Eriksen were all brilliant and made telling contributions in the emphatic victory.

Sanchez, in particular, was electric. He started alongside Lautaro Martinez up front, and took apart the Rondinelle with his powerful strike from the spot whilst also assisting both Young and Roberto Gagliardini. The ex-United defender opened the scoring with an amazing volley, before lifting an excellent cross for Danilo D’Ambrosio in the first half. Eriksen, meanwhile, came off the bench to apply finishing touches to the match with a goal and assist of his own.

Brescia look doomed to go down

The lopsided scoreline pretty much tells the whole story. Brescia showed precious little to suggest they are fighting for survival, and took an absolute paddling to the tune of the 6-0 shellacking. They ginned up an excellent chance as early as the third minute, but Alfredo Donnarumma, who’s scored in each of the last two games, blazed his effort over with the goal gaping, and it effectively set the tone for a torrid evening.

They left too much gaps at the back and were also easily beaten in set-pieces. The ‘Lioness’ appeared more like a timid lamb in a slaughter house, as the defeat – or rather, belting – condemns them to the bottom of the table, eight points adrift of safety with nine games remaining. Looks like the Prophet of Doom is knocking on Biancazzurri’s door already.

Bastoni packs a punch

Ever since Antonio Conte took over Inter, many players have shown drastic improvements. Alessandro Bastoni is one such player, and once again reminded everyone of his talent with a performance straight out of the top-drawer. Even though Brescia rarely threatened, he was always there to nip any danger in the bud with crucial tackles (five) and interceptions (four).

His best bit was arguably when he headed over a dangerous cross inside the box with Torregrossa lingering right behind him. And whilst he didn’t exactly get involved upfront, the 20-year old pushed his side forward with numerous long balls and also completed 92% of his passes. He scored the late winner against Parma at the weekend, and now put on another defensive masterclass as Bastoni continues to show his worth to the team.
