The full-back conundrum is in full swing for Chelsea yet again this summer as they are left with many options to decipher from. In all honesty, it seems like a while since the Blues had full-backs they could rely on, and I would argue this stretches back to the Antonio Conte days even.
If Ben Chilwell of Leicester City falls through, which could happen either through financial constraints or the competition of Manchester City being too strong. Here are three alternatives for Chelsea to consider…
3. Lucas Digne
The Everton full-back has been in impressive form this season but he could be on his way out of Merseyside after a short stay. ESPN have reported that Chelsea could turn to Lucas Digne should the deal of Ben Chilwell fall through, and in all honesty, I can see why.
Digne is an excellent crosser of the ball, so he would be key to the creativity in attack, and could be a nice option B for Frank Lampard. He would be given plenty of freedom to move forward and overlap the winger, however, fans can take comfort knowing that when he is relied upon defensively, his concentration in this regard is usually top-notch.
