Borussia Dortmund is holding onto arguably one of football’s next generational superstars, and their decision this summer regarding his future will chart their course.

BVB manager Lucien Favre looked upon the unfolding scene with a mix of angst, confusion, and resignation.

The scene occurred in their fortress at the Westfalenstadion on their last matchday of this season. The club had earned another second-place finish behind Bayern for the title and had only the badge to play for.

Favre’s club capitulated early in the match en route to a 4-0 drubbing by Hoffenheim. Their expected goals for the game was 0.2.

Jadon Sancho, who is believed to be the next great English superstar, came into the match at the half, and it made little difference. It also may have been his last game in a yellow and black shirt.

The 20-year-old finished the season with 17 goals and 16 assists, one of three players in the league who was in double figures in both categories.

Jadon has been rumored to go to nearly every big Premier League club this summer for the last year. The closest link appears to be with Manchester United. Dortmund knows the time is now to sell him.

Der BVB has brought in a slew of players (Erling Haaland, Emre CanThorgan Hazard, and Julian Brandt) in an attempt to bridge the gap between them and the title holders.

The big question for Dortmund now is whether or not, in the new financial landscape, to sell Jadon Sancho for their asking price or to drop the price and let him go.

If the club keeps him, then they may stand a chance at competing for next year’s title. If they let him go, in all likelihood, another attempt at capturing the bride’s bouquet is in order.

They have decided to keep their beleaguered manager, who overall has done well, what will be their next big decision?
