The Chelsea legend has spoken, and the Chelsea manager listened.
Frank Lampard knows everything there is to know about Chelsea football club, from the good to the bad. Yet, he still adores every aspect of the club. A player who he endured great success with, winning many Premier League trophies and even the Champions League was Ashley Cole, a player who is up there with the greatest full-backs in English history.
So, Cole knows a thing or two about defending. This is why it was no surprise to berate the recent performance of Andreas Christensen, who quite frankly cost Chelse the game against West Ham, which sees their Champions League qualification hopes now hanging by a thread.
According to the Sun, Cole blasted Christensen for “ball watching” and doing nothing to prevent the West Ham goal. Which is true, since there’s a lot more he could have done but didn’t. Antonio Rudiger was not innocent either.

So, there are defensive issues at Stamford Bridge which need fixing. This begs the question, why are Chelsea continually being linked with attackers, then? Surely now they’ve signed Timo Werner, they should focus on strengthening the defence where it is much needed. Kai Havertz should be last on the list.
Well, it would appear that Lampard is beginning to take this view finally. According to a new report from the Daily Mail, Chelsea are now considering a move for the Villareal defender Pau Torres, who is thought to be a target for Arsenal and Barcelona. The two Manchester clubs could poke their noses in too since they are also on the lookout for defensive reinforcements.
Given the heated and quite frankly bizarre climate of the transfer market right now, Chelsea should not be surprised by this competition. No matter where they look, they will have competitors. However, they clearly have the funds for Torres, who is a worthwhile young defender, if their transfer activity of late is anything to go by.
Do you think Chelsea will sign Pau Torres?
