Let Man United’s recent upturn in attacking form not deviate you from the fact that same side struggled to convert chances against teams which ceded possession to them. What they lacked was a seasoned goalscorer who could operate against deep defences.

Odion Ighalo has provided that presence to some extent yet the Nigerian is nowhere near to what Edinson Cavani‘s pedigree. After being released by Paris Saint-Germain, the Uruguayan is free to negotiate with clubs for his next project.

Recently, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer talked about adding competition for his strikers to enhance their performance levels.

Not only will he add quality to the United squad, Cavani, a veteran forward, but will also be a figure who could shower his goalscoring wisdom on the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Mason Greenwood.

If United chiefs are prepared to pay his upscale wages, Edinson Cavani could add a new dimension to Solskjaer’s side.

#3 Thomas Partey

For United, their best phase of the season coincided with Nemanja Matic hitting his top form at the base of Solskjaer’s midfield axis.

After a sluggish start to the campaign and finding himself behind Scott McTominay and Fred in the defensive midfield pecking order, Matic earned a spot in the starting lineup, owing to a diligent tactical and physical conditioning with the coaching staff.

Since Nemanja’s return to the starting XI, Manchester United have found a solid foundation to build their attacks and maintain a compact defensive shape during transitions.

But, relying on the 31-year-old to anchor United’s midfield for around 60 games next campaign, considering Red Devils going deep into cup competitions, could be a bit too much.

Keeping that in mind, it would be wise for Solskjaer to recruit a defensive midfielder to share the workload.

As developments suggest, Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey has stalled a contract extension offer and is weighing up a move to England this summer. Despite Arsenal being touted slightly ahead for his signature, Man United should try and lure the Ghanaian, who ranks among the elite defensive midfielders in the world.
