Arsenal simply must pay Aubameyang’s excessive wage demands

If Arsenal are serious about their progress, Aubameyang’s demands are the test.

Arsenal is going through a really positive patch lately, both in terms of what’s happening on and off the pitch. The Gunners have won their last four games, including an FA Cup win which sees them move into the semifinals of the competition.

The priority for Arsenal and new manager Mikel Arteta is to finish as high as possible in the Premier League standings, although given their lucrative history in the FA Cup, they will have a keen eye on this competition too.

For now, I suppose the main conundrum which needs to be solved is that of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s contract. Yesterday, it was revealed that he had asked for wages of £250,000 and to be offered a three-year-deal if he is to sign an extension.

These are, of course, excessive demands, but it’s what Arsenal should expect. He has been one of if not our best player this season and I dread to think where we would be without the Gabon international and his ability to bag goals consistently.

Having reached 50 goals recently, and being the fastest Gunner to do so, I think he has every right to demand the same wages as Mesut Ozil, who I’ve made my thoughts on very clear recently.

Arsenal is making a lot of progress under Mikel Arteta. Tactically this can be seen, as we just seem so much more organised. But it can also be seen behind the scenes, especially with Bukayo Saka‘s recent contract extension. Let’s just hope that the board can build on this momentum by securing the future of Aubameyang.

If Arteta is to continue making this progress, then he needs to keep ahold of the world-class players that play for Arsenal currently, which are very limited in truth. But Aubameyang is certainly one of them; there are no two ways about it, the Gunners need to pay up.
