Bukayo Saka could be the reason why Aubameyang stays at Arsenal

The two Arsenal forwards are forming quite the partnership.

In the end, it was a disappointing 1-1 draw with Leicester from Arsenal’s perspective. This is because Eddie Nketiah‘s soft red card resulted in Jamie Vardy scoring a late equaliser. However, going into the match, I’m certain that a draw against this Foxes side would have been a good result.

And truly there was nothing wrong with the Arsenal display. If anything, they could have scored more than one goal. Bukayo Saka and Kieran Tierney were excellent, as was Emiliano Martinez between the sticks making a number of key saves.

The key pattern which struck me most was the exceptional understanding that Saka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have of each other. Indeed it was the young Englishman who laid it on a plate for Aubameyang to score, with his low cross. Then around ten minutes after this goal, Aubameyang turned provider but the ball was only just cut out and didn’t reach Saka in the end.

Aubameyang’s unselfish nature in recent games tells me one thing, that he is beginning to trust Arteta’s use of young players and he feels comfortable playing alongside them. And why shouldn’t he? Saka is an excellent forward to play alongside since his delivery is often pinpoint, his age has nothing to do with his quality.

With Saka tying down his long-term contract and continuing to impress each week regardless of which position he occupies, I’m hopeful this will make Aubameyang follow suit. The Gabon international, if you’ve been living under a rock, runs out of contract next summer and Arsenal are in talks with the striker to keep him at the club.

I do firmly believe that Aubameyang still has a number of years of quality left in him before he deteriorates. Don’t forget, only Vardy has scored more goals than him in this Premier League campaign and if anything, he is ageing like a fine wine.
