Why Manchester United should not pay full price for Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho is just not worth the risk.

Dortmund has let any suitors for Jadon Sancho know that they have until August 10th to pay them €120 million, a figure Manchester United should not pay.

The chess match between the Red Devils and Dortmund has started. On one side is United’s Ed Woodward, the Glazer family’s financial figurehead. On the other is Michael Zorc, BVB’s shrewd sporting director.

The methodical former banker Woodward is the Gary Kasparov in this tangle of pawns and queens, and Zorc is the swiftly tactical super computer, Deep Blue.

At stake is the transfer of one of England’s brightest stars, Jadon Sancho, who may not be convinced that Old Trafford is the best landing spot.

Bild has reported that Zorc and Company have set a deadline of August 10th and reminded everyone of their €120 million price tag. It is a chess move based on a position of strength as they hold Sancho’s contract.

However, it is United who has the money to spend, but should they do it?

To help answer that question, I asked the official Atlanta Manchester United Supporters Group in an entirely unscientific Facebook poll.

The majority of respondents said that their club should obtain Sancho, but not for Dortmund’s excessive asking price.

The wisdom of crowds is usually always right, and in this case, they are. There are two reasons why the Red Devils should not break into their ATM to clean out their account.
