Mikel Arteta has work to do with Arsenal’s centre-backs.

A tale of Arsenal’s project restart has been the centre-backs, and it’s been a narrative of two ends, I suppose. It all began when David Luiz produced a monstrosity after coming on as a substitute against Manchester City but Shkodran Mustafi has made amends in recent weeks with his fine performances.

Still, Mikel Arteta is not one to rest on his laurels. He knows that in order to progress, Arsenal simply must sign a centre-back in the transfer window, to partner Wiliam Saliba next season. That said, here are the three names that are making the rounds…

3. Malang Sarr

This is a nice option for Arsenal to have. Malang Sarr has recent left OGC Nice due to contract expiration, meaning he would be a free agent should the Gunners manage to convince him to join. However, that’s where the problem lies. Since strong candidates are lining up to sign him, including Red Bull Leipzig.

Sarr ages at just 21 years old so he would be a long-term investment should Arteta tie him down to wages. This would leave the Gunners with a healthy-looking centre back pairing alongside Saliba, who ages at 19 years old himself.

The good news is that according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have made contact with Sarr and his agent.
