4 talented centre-backs Chelsea could sign in the summer
2. David Alaba
Alaba is a player who can not only play many positions, but he plays them all very well.
He came up at Bayern Munich playing as a left-back, but he was also often used in midfield, both as a holding midfielder and as a No. 8. He was considered by many to have been stripped of his attacking potential by sticking him at left-back, and they had a point.
Austria has used him in a much more offensive capacity, playing him as almost a second striker, in behind the No. 9, to be the creative hub for the team.
Recently, though, he has been moved into the center of the defence with the emergence of Alphonso Davies at left-back, and he has unsurprisingly continued to thrive. He may go down as the most versatile player of all time.
He is mobile, good on the ball, quick and a good tackler, everything Lampard would require in a centre-back. His versatility could also be very useful, as he could essentially play anywhere along the backline.
The 28-year-old may not transform the defence, but he would certainly be a reliable option, something Chelsea have lacked this season, so he is definitely worth considering for Lampard as he looks to shore up his side.
Having a player who could play as a centre-back and as a No. 10 in your team would never be a bad thing, would it?
