Manchester United never really did replace the Belgian talisman.

While Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford has been in impressive form this season, he is no Romelu Lukaku. This is not to undermine the Englishman’s talent, the two are just different moulds of strikers.

Where Lukaku was a real bagsman and tended to focus on his positioning and spatial awareness, Rashford is much more direct in his play and likes to bring the game to the defenders, rather than being smart about his positioning.

United have made immense progress this season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, especially in their attack. However, I feel like it’s still not perfect, and it would be nice to bring in a plan B. As we’ve seen in the past already, Solskjaer can be a one-trick pony which is easily exploitable by league rivals, so he needs to avoid suffering the same fate.

More from Manchester United

Rumour has it, Manchester United could turn to the Serie A to bring in a new attacking reinforcement. According to Tuttosport, United are prepared to fight Inter Milan for the signing of Andrea Belotti. However, Torino are not willing to accept less than €40m.

Belotti is an incredible striker and having been linked with United before, the supporters will be aware of the talent he possesses. I view him as much more similar to Lukaku than Rashford. However, ageing at 26 years old, he is more mature and developed than Lukaku was when he first signed.

Solskjaer could really benefit from signing the Torino bagsman. He scored 16 goals in Serie A this season but what’s even more impressive is that he averaged a goal per match in the Europa League, so he is able to play on the big stage. Manchester United have bigger goals in mind, though, as they are within touching distance of a Champions League spot.
