The Arsenal manager is not the type to run down the clock…

Arsenal fans have collectively rejoiced at the positive changes that Mikel Arteta has brought to the club since he took over from Unai Emery. It seems like he took a lot of negatives and turned them into positives.

One of the downsides to supporting Arsenal previously was the number of players we let leave for free. The likes of Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey, two of our best players last decade, both spring to mind.

There is a panic that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could join this list. The Gabon international who is Arsenal’s main bagsman and deemed by many as irreplaceable runs out of contract at the Emirates Stadium next summer. Hence the effort to tie him down for a longer time.

According to a new report from Goal, Mikel Arteta is open about wanting to tie Aubameyang down and he wants an agreement to be reached as soon as possible, both for Arsenal and the player’s sake. As a not-long-retired player, he understands the strain that contract negotiations can place on players, and wants this to change from the board.

Of course, a lot more goes into a player wanting to stay at their club than just money, despite what many would think in the modern game. Players want success, especially players in the calibre of Aubameyang. That said, if the Gunners are to win the FA Cup final and finish as high as possible in the league with just two games to go, Aubameyang would surely trust Arteta’s project.

Aubameyang helped the Gunners reach the final of the competition which has served them well. Two unexpected but well-earned goals saw the Gabon international full of smiles at the full-time whistle, knowing that his second visit to Wembley Stadium this stadium is booked, now against Chelsea.
