Chelsea are certainly keeping their options open.

Those who follow the Chelsea transfer news closely will see one clear pattern emerging in recent weeks, and that is the linking of Chelsea to goalkeepers. It’s no surprise, either, given that Frank Lampard and Kepa Arrizabalaga aren’t the best of friends at this moment in time.

According to the latest report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen is the latest to join the ever-growing bunch of Chelsea options. It’s thought that Frank Lampard is interested in a swap deal involving Kepa, in the hopes of persuading Barcelona.

The Blaugrana will have a lot of thinking to do, obviously. Ter Stegen has been one of their better performers this season and although they missed out on La Liga silverware, I dread to think how their season would have panned out if Ter Stegen wasn’t guarding the sticks.

Alongside Lionel Messi, the German shot-stopper has been the most important player for Quique Setien’s side, so they will be hesitant to sell him. However, given the recent negotiations with Bayern Munich, the Camp Nou board aren’t completely closed-off to the sale, the Blues just need to play their cards right.

I do believe it’s best that Chelsea sell Kepa this summer. It’s never good to have a negative aura between manager and player since this energy can transcend throughout the rest of the squad, which is the last thing Lampard needs in his project to rebuild the Blues. He needs every player on board, so if Kepa isn’t, then he simply must be sold.

Getting Ter Stegen in return for the Kepa loss is a deal that simply shouldn’t be passed. However, given the depth of options he has now, it seems very much like Lampard is broadening his options and will narrow them at crunch time.
