4. He is running down his contract
Ozil lives a very lavish lifestyle at Arsenal. He gets paid a lot for not doing a lot, so why on earth would he want to leave? That said, I get the feeling that he is merely running down his contract, which expires in the summer of 2021.
Arsenal don’t need to offer him a contract extension. They need to sell him, with no questions asked. He is simply not worth the wages, especially considering he doesn’t even pay. I mean, I really can’t see any sense in keeping him for another year when the easiest option is to sell him, no hassle.
5. Focus on Aubameyang
Selling Ozil this summer means that Arsenal can focusing on their most important player, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon international also runs out of contract next summer but unlike Ozil, he is incredibly important to the starting XI and Arteta is a big fan of his.
If Ozil is earning the ridiculous wage that he is, then there’s no denying that Aubameyang deserves more than he’s currently on (£200,000). The financial increase from selling Ozil and relieving of his wages will serve the Gunners well in their negotiations with Aubameyang and his agent.
After all, you can replace Ozil easily (with Dani Ceballos, providing talks go well) but you cannot replace Aubameyang’s goals. It just depends on where Arsenal rest their priorities.
Do you think Arsenal will keep or sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang?
