Chelsea look to continue to improve their squad ahead of next season.
Chelsea are taking full advantage of the fact that their transfer ban was lifted. Since then the club have signed Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and have been linked with Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.
It looks like they are not done spending and have turned their sights to La Liga and Getafe for their next transfer target. According to Sport, the Blues are being linked with Getafe’s Marc Cucurella and are willing to offer €30 million for the Spanish player.
The former Barcelona youth player moved to Getafe this season after an impressive loan spell at Eibar the season prior.

Barcelona brought Cucurella back from Eibar but then loaned him to Getafe with an option to buy. After another outstanding season, they did make the move permanent. Included in the original loan agreement was a sell-on clause.
Getafe agreed to pay Barcelona €6 million and the Catalans would receive 40% from a future sale. But Getafe were able to come to a new agreement in which they paid €10 million and Barcelona kept only 10%.
Months later, it’s looking like a bad deal from Barcelona’s perspective as they are now only entitled to €3 million instead of €12 million should a deal between Chelsea and Getafe go through.
Should the two sides come to an agreement, it will be interesting to see where manager Frank Lampard would deploy him. With Eibar and Getafe, Cucurella excelled playing as a winger down the left.
However, coming up through the Barcelona academy, he was used as a left-back. He can do both and considering the defensive deficiencies shown by Chelsea throughout the season, at defense is where he will likely end up.
One of the reasons Chelsea is chasing him now is he would be a more financially feasible option. They were interested in Leicester’s Ben Chilwell but their valuation of him is too high for Chelsea’s taste.
In any case, Cucurella is a versatile player and can offer cover in any position down the left. He’s more than capable in attack and can handle his own on defense. At 22-years-old he still has room for improvement and would be an upgrade over fellow Spanish defender, Marcos Alonso.
