Chelsea need a new keeper; at this point, there’s no getting around it.

Chelsea ultimately had a very successful season, overachieving in manager Frank Lampard‘s first at the club. But the truth is at times they needlessly made things harder on themselves, conceding silly goals to lose very winnable games.

The Blues conceded 54 goals in the Premier League this season, the most of the entire top half, which certainly needs improvement. One position isn’t fully to blame for Chelsea’s defensive woes, but one key aspect that needs refining is the goalkeeper.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has had a very, very poor season, not just by the world’s most expensive keeper’s standards, but by an average Premier League goalie’s standards. His save percentage is the worst in the league, and the worst in Europe’s top five leagues as well.

There is no telling how many more points Chelsea could’ve won this season had it not been for Kepa’s misgivings, but it could well have been in the double digits, so replacing him could be key to a potential title challenge.

Of course, there are other positions that require help as well, specifically the centre-back position, but signing a new goalkeeper should undoubtedly be one of Lampard’s top priorities, if not the top priority.

With that said, there are several options in the transfer window that could make Chelsea more reliable between the sticks.
