Chelsea didn’t quite get their man in January.
Chelsea have put in a stellar shift in the transfer window thus far. They have signed Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech will arrive ready for next season too. This is the first time Lampard has really had the chance to add his personal touches to his squad, since last summer he was transfer banned and the January window was a write-off too.
However, the Blues were somewhat active in the January transfer window. They were in discussion with Arsenal’s Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, last season’s golden boot winner and the man that came ever so close to matching Jamie Vardy this season.
He has only a year remaining on his Emirates Stadium contract, which is why many of the top European clubs are preparing in case he does leave. However, Chelsea didn’t manage to secure his signature the first time round.

According to a report from Mailonline, this is because they simply couldn’t afford his excessive wage demands; a struggle that Arsenal face in their bid to keep him. Whether or not he chooses to lessen his demands given the Coronavirus pandemic remains to be seen, but I’m certain Chelsea won’t be back in for him now they’ve signed Timo Werner.
Arsenal come up against Chelsea in the FA Cup final, and Aubameyang will be looking to get on the score sheet as he often does on these occasions. He scored twice against Manchester City in the semifinal and he’ll be out searching for blood in the big final too.
Having lost against Arsenal previously in the cup final, the Blues will be hoping that Aubameyang doesn’t come back to haunt them. If he does leave the Gunners this transfer window, he will want to leave with a trophy and he’ll stop at nothing to get that.
Do you think Chelsea will be better off with Werner than Aubameyang?
