Female athletes build their brand through the resources provided by The Pivot.

Kristina Garrido founded The Pivot in an effort to empower female athletes to thrive off the field by helping them build an authentic brand. Each female athlete is far more than just her athletic accomplishments. By creating a profile that speaks to the complete human and not just the player, athletes are able to connect with companies that share their values and passions.

The Pivot also prides itself on being inclusive. The resources that the company provides are available to athletes at varying stages of their careers. You don’t have to be a USWNT player in the World Cup with a hefty social media following to build your brand and be seen and heard.

And what better time to shine a spotlight on female soccer players than now?

More from USA Soccer

Last year, the USWNT hoisted the World Cup trophy as champions. In June, as the NWSL Challenge Cup kicked off, the league revealed an impressive list of sponsors that included Google, Verizon, Budweiser, Nike, CBS, and P&G.

In July, an announcement was made that the NWSL would expand to LA in 2022 with Angel City, a majority female-owned club backed by big names such as Natalie Portman, Serena Williams, Julie Uhrman, Julie Foudy, and Mia Hamm. And as the year goes on, the USWNT continues a long but necessary fight for equal pay.

These are all huge steps in the advancement and visibility of women’s soccer and female athletes. Though there’s still a long way to go before women’s soccer receives the recognition and attention it deserves, The Pivot intends to play its part in adding to the momentum that’s already there.

Even in its early stages as a company, The Pivot has had success with athletes such as New Zealand National Team captain Ali Riley and Washington Spirit defender Paige Nielsen.

Besides leading the New Zealand National Team, Ali Riley has played professionally around the world in Sweden, Germany, England, and the United States. She’s bright, charismatic and has many interests outside of soccer including creating and cooking delicious, healthy recipes. Through The Pivot she’s now partnered with apparel and food and beverage companies.

Paige Nielsen currently plays professionally in the NWSL. She is value-driven, always looks to lift others up, and is a great self-advocate. Through The Pivot, Paige has teamed up with several mission-driven companies focused on female empowerment including a coffee company and a sports equipment brand.

Both of these women have not just had success on the soccer field, but have excelled in their lives outside of the sport. They should be obvious choices for brands to partner with and yet without the help of a company like The Pivot it’s not always as obvious as you might think or hope.

As more and more companies and athletes pair together through The Pivot, the enormous value that female athletes can bring to the table is becoming increasingly apparent. These partnerships are mutually beneficial and inspire creativity that might otherwise lay dormant.
