Manchester City have made their first splash of the summer transfer window.

With the transfer rumors constantly swirling, Manchester City has taken upon themselves to secure their first huge signing of the summer after their two-year Champions League ban was lifted. Pep Guardiola‘s side recently lost LeRoy Sane to Bayern Munich, but instantly found a young and exciting winger from Spain. 20-year old Ferran Torres has inked a five-year contract with City, securing his future with one of the biggest clubs in the world.

A homegrown talent who came through the Valencia academy, Torres made 44 appearances across all competitions this term, scoring six times and tallying eight assists. He made his debut with the La Liga side back in 2017 as a 17-year old, becoming the first player born in the 2000s to feature in Spain’s top-flight that year.

More from Manchester City

Torres brings a similar style of play to the Etihad as Sane. The U21 Spain international is incredibly vibrant on the right flank, possessing tremendous work-rate and pace which results in creating a ton of havoc in the final third. He’s also very productive with the ball at his feet, showing the ability to beat numerous defenders thanks to his great footwork. The youngster is the type of player who goes full throttle for 90 minutes, which is exactly what Guardiola loves. He’s already voiced his desire to play under the Spanish gaffer and there’s no doubt that Torres will thrive with his new club.

At the young age of 20, he’s already racked up more than 100 appearances in one of Europe’s top-five leagues. Torres is more developed than most players his age because of the amount of first-team football he’s played and is considered one of the most exciting young talents on the globe. He isn’t much of a physical presence on the ball, which could be one area that may hurt him in the Premier League. But with time, Torres will learn how to play to his strengths. However, he’s certainly in the right system at Manchester City where they love to play attacking-driven football.

Now, the Citizens must address their issues at the back and sign a couple of defenders this summer. They’ve had a bid for Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake accepted, so it’s only a matter of time until the 25-year old puts pen to paper. The former Chelsea man should be a valuable signing as well, providing solidity at center back after gaining valuable experience with the Cherries over the course of the last four seasons.

Torres should be the first of several key signings that Manchester City makes this summer before the Premier League season gets going on September 12th.
