Arsenal will have to bid farewell to Lacazette if Aubameyang stays.

It’s never nice choosing between two great things. While it’s a nice problem to have, losing one of your star players, especially a striker, is never nice. However, this is what Arsenal should have anticipated when they signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, knowing they already had quality in Alexandre Lacazette.

The two, despite contrary belief at the time, have sparked an exciting partnership over the last number of seasons. Both on the pitch and off it, they have formed a brotherhood. However, there have been times where the manager has struggled to integrate them both into the team at the same time.

Mikel Arteta hasn’t had this trouble, since he prefers a front three of Auba, Laca and Nicolas Pepe. However, with Willian‘s arrival seemingly imminent, it looks likely that Laca will have to move so that Aubameyang can take his spot in the centre of a front three.

According to the Daily Star, Lacazette looks likely to join Atletico Madrid, with the Spanish club being interested in him for a very long time. Even before the Gunners signed Lacazette, Atleti were snooping around his name in the hopes of signing him, although the Griezmann situation was complicated for them.

Providing the Gabon international wants to stay at the club of course, this is the best option. Arsenal should raise some funds on the immensely talented Laca because Auba is clearly the better player and he can promise the Gunners around 20 goals a season, the Frenchman cannot.

Lacazette won’t be leaving with any hard feelings. Besides, he has always wanted to play for Atletico Madrid and they will be in the Champions League anyway. Who knows? If Thomas Partey is still at the club, then Lacazette could put in a good word about Arsenal.
