I have no idea what Manchester United’s thought process is here.

Look, I get it. It’s easy to become attaches to certain players, especially when they’ve done many great things for your club. This is why I can somewhat understand why Manchester United fans will jump to defend David de Gea‘s every move (better than he can, I must add).

But as a neutral fan, I have to be honest here. I don’t fear playing against de Gea anymore. In fact, I look forward to it. That’s just the level he has stooped to now and especially this season, he has made so many mistakes, that it’s easy to confuse him for a bottom half goalkeeper.

When Manchester United have a young goalkeeper out on loan, Dean Henderson, who could do a better job between the sticks, you have to question the manger for his decision. Especially now that, according to the Evening Standard, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will keep Henderson out on loan due to fear he won’t be able to introduce him to the starting XI.

More from Manchester United

If not now, then when? When will Manchester United see that it’s time to let go of David de Gea and stop protecting him? Henderson is only going to grow frustrated and look elsewhere if this continues, surely. Especially if he fails to get into Gareth Southgate‘s Euro 2021 squad because of it.

While Henderson has little experience, his season has been very impressive. He’s helped Sheffield United to a remarkable finish considering they are newly promoted and there are calls already that he should replace Jordan Pickford as England number one, which I personally agree with.

If David de Gea can prove me wrong next season and return to the player he once was, I will happily eat my words. There was a point in time when I dubbed him as the best goalkeeper in the world. However, Manchester United must be realists here and seriously consider this choice, because Henderson is ready to enter the starting XI.
