Thiago has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, but now Man City have reportedly entered the race for the Spanish midfielder

With the transfer window alive and well, many top talents from across the continent will be joining new clubs in the coming weeks. The latest out of Germany is that current Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara could be on his way to England, with Jurgen Klopp very keen on bringing the 29-year old to Anfield. But, the reigning Premier League champions could face competition for his signature, with Manchester City entering the race for the player, according to SportBild.

The Spanish international has one year remaining on his current deal with the Bundesliga giants, but he’s voiced his desire to take on a new challenge. Bayern is asking for around 30 million euros for Alcantara and the Reds have said they won’t pay any more than that for the Spaniard. But, the Citizens have stated their willingness to pay an even higher fee for Thiago, which could entice the Bavarian giants to send him to the Etihad.

City has already made a big splash in this summer’s transfer window, signing Valencia starlet Ferran Torres and Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake. With their Champions League ban lifted, Pep Guardiola’s side is prepared to splash the cash in order to return to the top of the table next season.

More from Manchester City

Guardiola already has an advantage over Klopp in regards to Thiago, having managed him at Barcelona and Bayern Munich previously. He’s looked at as a possible replacement for David Silva at Man City, who is on the verge of completing a move to Serie A side Lazio.

Alcantara is a classic deep-lying midfielder who has been instrumental in Bayern’s success. He’s a great playmaker who makes crucial passes, while also possessing impressive defensive abilities in his own half. The former Barcelona man is also a wonderful dribbler who can take on numerous players and come out on top thanks to his speed and skill.

Liverpool has been tracking Thiago for weeks, but when City enters the race, anything is possible. With the Citizens losing Silva, they will be wanting to replenish their midfield with another top talent. Alcantara is familiar with Pep’s tactics and would fit in nicely in the Premier League.

The Reds already have a bevy of talent in the middle of the pitch, so this type of signing may seem like more of a priority for City.
