Chelsea’s bid to replace Kepa may have taken a significant boost.
With the transfer window in full swing, Chelsea haven’t been slow to capitalise. Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have already signed for the Blues and the English manager Frank Lampard has other plans to excite the fans.
One problem which he has needed to address for some time is the goalkeeper conundrum. Whle he has given Kepa Arrizabalaga a chance to prove him wrong, the two just don’t get along well. While Willy Caballero is an adequate backup, he is not good enough to be starting on a regular occurrence. That said, a goalkeeper is next on Lampard’s to-do list.
The likes of Andre Onana and Nick Pope have all been in the rumour mill, but one name sticks out above the rest. That name is Jan Oblak. The Slovenian shot-stopper is considered as the best goalkeeper in the world by many, a claim that I do agree with. His performances in the UCL and La Liga demonstrate his qualities perfectly.

Chelsea would be lucky to sign Oblak, for sure. However, they may have been given a significant boost. According to Football London, the Blues have received a confidence boost after hearing that Atletico were looking for goalkeepers to replace him.
After the disappointing loss to Red Bull Leipzig, Oblak would have felt frustrated. He needs to be somewhere that can compete either domestically or in the European scene. While Chelsea are a long way off winning the UCL, they have a good chance of challenging for the EPL title next season. In fact, I even dubbed them as my early favourites to win.
Oblak is certainly ready to make the move to English football, and he would soon become the best goalkeeper in the top-flight. Having someone reliable between the sticks could serve Lampard well in his bid to win the first trophy of his managerial campaign (let’s just hope it doesn’t involve a cup final).
Do you think Chelsea will sign Jan Oblak this summer?
