Arsenal see this Liverpool target as a Thomas Partey alternative
By Kian Long
Arsenal could really annoy some Liverpool fans with this one.
The footballing world is very much a dog-eat-dog world. As a club, you can only really look out for yourself and your players as you may have to step on others’ toes in order to reach the top. This is very much the case in the transfer window, as Arsenal fans will know too well. Too often, they have seen their players or targets join rival clubs, but now they could get their own back.
Having already signed Willian as a free agent from Chelsea, the Gunners may look to ruin Liverpool’s transfer plans this summer. According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal wish to pursue a move for the Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who has been a target of Liverpool’s for many months.
In all honesty, this does not surprise me. In fact, I am shocked that Arsenal haven’t explored this avenue sooner. Thiago is entering the final year of his Allianz Arena contract and will thus be available for a cheaper price.

Thiago has demolished Arsenal a number of times in his Bayern career, so they know all about him. He is a skilful player that loves to create for his teammates in an unselfish manner, therefore he would be great under Arteta’s system.
Liverpool is certainly the more attractive destination for Thiago; they are the Premier League champions and will be playing UCL football next season. Bearing in mind Thiago could be crowned a UCL winner for the second time in his career tonight, this proposition will be important to him.
However, I’m certain that with the right convincing, Arteta could convince his countryman to join him in his project. After all, he certainly convinced Willian to join from a rival club.
Do you think Arsenal will be successful in their pursuit of Thiago?
