Chelsea are very aware of the possibility of not signing Ben Chilwell.
If the deal was an easy one to complete, then Chelsea would have signed Ben Chilwell by now. But the truth is, Leicester City have no real reason to sell him, so they were always bound to play hardball and keep Chelsea chasing. This is why it’s good that the Blues have backup options.
Inferring from a new report from Football London, it would seem that Chelsea are opening themselves up to these other possibilities. The English outlet claims that Frank Lampard is interested in a move for Sergio Reguilon of Real Madrid, who would be available for half of Chilwell’s price.
Reguilon, who spent the season on loan at Sevilla, played the full 90 minutes in their UEL final against Inter Milan, whereby they won the competition that has served them incredibly well. Coming off the back of a European win will serve him well in his next venture, whether it be with Real Madrid or elsewhere.

Chelsea should hope to move on from Marcos Alonso this summer. While he has been a good addition to their XI, they need better than just good. Lampard will be mounting a title challenge next season, so he needs a team of winners. Alonso, unfortunately, does not fall under this calibre.
Reguilon is 23 years old and brings with him a burning desire to succeed. If his loan spell has taught anything, it’s that he is able to adapt to a number of different systems. Since Lampard likes to play his full-backs high up the pitch, Reguilon is perfect for this. Having experience playing as a left-sided midfielder, he has honed his creative prowess and would provide some exceptional balls into the prolific and hungry Timo Werner.
