Chelsea close in on a deal for this world-class centre-back
By Kian Long
Thinking of central defenders, not many are better than this Chelsea target.
As they prepare for the new season and to hopefully mount a serious title challenge, Chelsea will have one thing in mind; to complete all their transfers as efficiently as possible. Frank Lampard will have a helping hand when it comes to the pursuit of Thiago Silva, who recently played his last game for Paris Saint-Germain in a narrow UCL final loss.
Silva is a renowned defender and during his time in Paris, has grown into one of the world’s best defenders. Playing on the big stage throughout his career, he is now nearing the end but still has some fuel left in the tank. He will now look for an EPL move to finish his career and Chelsea could be the perfect club for this.
According to a new report from Sky Sports, Chelsea are “closing in” on a deal for Thiago Silva. It’ll be without a transfer fee, of course, but the contract is laid out as a three-year-deal, with both parties agreeing this is the best deal.

Chelsea were thought to be interested in Declan Rice not long ago, but this would eliminate the need to splash the cash on the West Ham defender. Wherever possible, clubs will want to save money and signing Thiago Silva for free is good at the best of times, let alone with the current economic crisis.
Given the sheer number of young players in the Chelsea squad currently, Silva would be a great addition. Not only would his experience benefit Lampard on the pitch, but it would also give the Chelsea legend a helping hand in training, as Silva could mentor some of the younger Blues.
Do you think that Lampard signing Thiago Silva is a good or bad bit of business?
