Chelsea’s hunt for a Kepa replacement continues…

Chelsea are certainly making their presence known in the summer transfer window. Having sgned some top quality names already in Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and recently Thiago Silva, they are not stopping there.

One position which is begging to be addressed by Frank Lampard is the goalkeeper position. Kepa Arrizabalaga lost his love for Chelsea a long time ago and Willy Caballero is not sufficient for the first-team, besides he is getting on a bit in his career now. But fear not, as this seems to be a position of concern for the Blues manager just as much as it is for the fans.

According to a new report from Football Insider, Lampard has located Gianluigi Donnarumma as a potential signing between the sticks. The Italian international is known as one of the best young players in the world and is the heir to Buffon’s throne in the national team, ageing at just 21 years old.

A signing like this would certainly be a more prudent signing than the likes of Jan Oblak, who would be very expensive in comparison. Donnarumma is entering the final year of his San Siro contract so he would be available for cheaper since Milan wouldn’t want to lose his services for free.

The truth is, Milan have been trying for many years to reclaim their former days of glory. Countless signings have come in with a lot of money being invested in the squad. However, progress doesn’t seem to be being made and if it is, it’s extremely slow.

Donnarumma deserves more, as he has served a few loyal years to the Italian club now. He deserves to be challenging for silverware, as this is the motive for many young gems such as Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. At Chelsea and under Lampard’s project, Donnarumma has the perfect opportunity to win trophies.
