Arsenal have got their backup options lined up.

As is often the case, there is speculation that Mesut Ozil could be leaving Arsenal this summer. With Fanatik today confirming that Al Nassr have been in contact with a lucrative offer, the German playmaker could be tempted to leave the club that has served him well in the last seven years.

Here are three midfielders that Arsenal are currently linked with should he need to be replaced…

3. Thomas Partey

This transfer saga seems to have dragged on for a lifetime, but there is truth in the fact that Arsenal want to sign Thomas Partey. Why wouldn’t they? The Ghanaian international is an exceptional talent and one that would slot perfectly into Mikel Arteta‘s system.

Like Ozil, Partey is very progressive in his passing. He likes to stride forward with the ball at his feet and involve his teammates in play. It’s this kind of attacking positivity that Arteta is trying to implement, and it would serve as a good complement to Granit Xhaka, who likes do dictate the tempo and Lucas Torreira, who likes to carry out the defensive work.

According to Goal, Thomas Partey has shown a keen interest in signing for Arsenal, but the Gunners now need to raise some funds to pay for his release clause. The ball is in Stan Kroenke’s court here…
