#3 Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid) – 21 clean sheets

It was a season of redemption for the Belgian, who had an agonizingly difficult first year back in the Spanish capital. With 18 clean sheets and the Zamora trophy in the bag, Courtois was back to his brilliant best last season and absolutely instrumental to Madrid‘s league success.

The former Atletico Madrid star’s exploits helped the side register the best defensive record of La Liga of just 25 goals conceded, whilst he also kept a save percentage of 59.2%, the highest in the division. From being an object of derision to being hailed as one of the season’s finest, how much it has all changed in just a year for Courtois!

#2 Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich) – 22 clean sheets

Neuer’s career had derailed after a series of injuries in 2017 saw him miss out on action for over a year, but he’s slowly and steadily worked his way to fitness and last season, hit the throttle again to burnish his credentials as the very best in the business.

The Bayern custodian was formidable, making life difficult for even the most prolific strikers out there with his pedigree and wealth of experience. His return of 22 clean sheets helped the Bavarians to the treble, pulling off some baffling saves against PSG in the showpiece clash last month to shut out Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

#1 Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid) – 22 clean sheets

If you were to draw out a list of the most underrated goalkeepers, then Jan Oblak would rank somewhere near the top. Since joining Atletico in 2014, he’s consistently been top notch and is widely regarded as one of the top three goalkeepers of his generation.

The Slovenian had another fine campaign, keeping 17 clean sheets from 38 games and conceding only 27 times. His was strong in the air while his shot-stopping ability was second to none, saving his side’s beacon on numerous occasions.
